A human rights activist or defender is someone who fights for justice, equality, and human dignity. They stand up for everyone's right to live with freedom and respect, challenging injustice at all levels.
Anyone can become a human rights activist! While no formal education is required, having knowledge of human rights laws, strong communication skills, and a passion for justice can be beneficial. Activists can work in legal, social, or advocacy roles.
Human rights violations include discrimination, torture, unfair trials, suppression of free speech, and violations of gender and refugee rights. You can report these violations to national bodies such as the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) or the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). In serious cases, international bodies like the United Nations (UN) or the International Criminal Court (ICC) can also be approached.
